We're Just Starting with Digital...

In this short Guest Editorial,  AudioXpress’ Editor in Chief Joao Martins reflects on the continued digitalization of audio delivery and reproduction. One consequence he sees is that in mainstream audio, it is the software and the user interface that distinguishes one product from another – the actual audio quality is so good, even in low-cost products, that it is no longer a differentiating factor. He cautions that Hi-End manufacturers, who have been differentiating their product from the competition by things like a custom analog output stage on a DAC, must embrace the functionality and ease of use customers have become to expect, lest they go the way of the dodo.
