How to design a winning, blind-preferred loudspeaker

David Moran noticed that the Infinity P362, a decade old speaker design which is still favored by the cognoscenti, has often beaten more recent designs in blind comparisons. David attributes this to the wide and even dispersion of the speaker, in line with the views of Toole and in later years Olive at Harman. Having recently acquired a vintage pair, he set out to document these attributes with measurements. Great was his consternation that the P392 was, at some occasions, clearly eclipsed by his equally vintage Allison AL125's. Thus started a search to what leads to a blind-preferred speaker design documented in this article with many measurements comparisons.
