On driving methods for loudspeaker systems
If there is a question in audio without a convincing answer, it is certainly the one about the way to properly drive a loudspeaker system. On one side, we have those supporting, with good arguments, voltage drive and, on the other side, those supporting current drive, with also good but different arguments, both parties fighting each other without any hope to find a reasonable final Gentlemen’s Agreement. The objective of this article is an attempt to reconcile the two positions by proposing an answer based on an objective analysis of the different available drive methods. The analysis will allow an estimation of the merits of each method according to their respective advantages and drawbacks.
